al-Idrisi Research Initiative
The al-Idrisi Research Initiative is the IAYG’s premier research, mentorship, and innovation initiative worldwide. al-Idrisi is an umbrella initiative of the IAYG’s collaborative research, academic mentorship, academic journals, and grants programmes. Geared toward early career geographers and university students, the al-Idrisi Research Initiative advances the field of geography and empowers young people to conduct world-class research.
Humanitarian Mapping Initiative
The IAYG’s new Humanitarian Mapping Initiative (HMI) mobilises the IAYG and its partners’worldwide networks of geographers, geography students, and community volunteers to apply geographic analysis for humanitarian support and disaster recovery, including in partnership with international networks and humanitarian organisations. Through IAYG HMI, people of all ages, backgrounds, and places are using geography to better communities and help save lives.
The IAYG believes that cutting-edge research in geography can help us better understand the world and improve communities – and we are committed to supporting young & early career geographers in leading the field. The IAYG’s research initiatives and research competitions give early career researchers opportunities to move the entire disciplines of geography and global studies forward.
Around the world, the IAYG GeoInterns programme connects university students and young geographers to valuable paid and unpaid internship opportunities. By bringing talented, engaged young leaders in geography and global studies together with employers/research institutions that value their abilities in these universally essential fields, the GeoInterns programme is paving a future for young people and advancing the field.
The IAYG is proud to support the International Geographical Union’s efforts for young and early career geographers. Through partnerships between the IAYG and the IGU, the IAYG supports the IGU Young & Early Career Geographers Taskforce’s activities, works closely with the IGU and the Taskforce on key programmes for early career geographers, and sponsors research prizes for young geographers at IGU events.
